Maastricht is in fifth place when it comes to pedestrian-friendly cities in our country. That is the conclusion that Holidu, a search engine for holiday homes, draws. The research was carried out with the understanding that tourists can get to know a city better if they can do it on foot.
The data was collected last month by calculating the precentage of pedestrian zones in OpenStreetMaps relative to the total length of all streets in a city. Maastricht came out at 7.29 percent.
The research results state: "You can already take a wonderful walk along the Maas river. In addition, Maastricht even has a beautiful bridge where you cross the Maas as a pedestrian. Maybe you will come across a cyclist will meet you, but cars don't drive across that bridge. At 21km of pedestrian zones within the city limits, Maastricht is ensured a nice fifth place."
Alkmaar is number 1 in the list with 11.71 percent of the pedestrian zone and Utrecht closes the top 10 with 5.37 percent.
