The first strike took place in early November and the next is already being planned. On Thursday 30 January and Friday 31 January, teachers, principals, and other primary and secondary school staff will down tools and protest for improved salaries and reductions in workload.
The previous strike – less than a month ago – turned out to be partially successful: an additional 460 million euros was allocated to education. However the protesters were not satisfied that this was a one-off increase. With the two-day strike the schools hope to increase the pressure and convince the cabinet to make structural funding available for education.
